Farm and Food Policy and Obesity
A two-day workshop on Farm and Food Policy and Obesity will be heldat the UC Davis Conference Center in Davis, California, on May 21-22, 2010.
The workshop will bring together researchers, policy analysts, and others employed in government, universities, and the private sector, to identify and discuss issues and to present findings related to agricultural policy and obesity. It will include participants from a range of disciplines including health sciences, nutrition, public policy, and economics, among others.
Policymakers and researchers alike will be exposed to the latest research on the influences of specific farm and food policies, the latest findings and facts about nutrition and obesity, and the possible mechanisms through which agricultural and food policies could be influencing health and body weight.
The workshop will highlight findings, regarding the effects of agricultural and food policies on obesity, from a four-year project conducted at UC Davis and Iowa State University with support from a National Research Initiative Grant from the USDA National Institute for Food and Agriculture.
